Apple Drops iPod Prices, Introduces New Models
Apple just slashed prices on the iPod Minis and released a few new iPod models.
The price of the 4 GB iPod mini has been reduced from $249 to $199, and Apple introduced a new 6 GB iPod Mini that is priced at $249.
The iPod Photo prices have also been reduced: The 60 GB model is now priced at $449, down from $599, and a new 30 GB iPod photo is available for $349. The new devices support direct connection to digital cameras.
iPod sales are still strong, so many may wonder why Apple is cutting prices. Speculation is that Apple is moving to cementing its hold on the portable digital music market, and in turn supporting an increased user-base for its popular iTunes music download site.
The new iPod models don't ship with Firewire (though Firewire will still work if you purchase a cable separately).
