Audiovox Introduces Rear Projection Flat Panel TV

Audiovox Corporation is expanding its flat panel TV line into the large screen arena with the introduction of its first 56-inch, rear-projection flat panel model. Tom Malone, senior VP, Sales, of Audiovox Electronics Corp., the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, made the announcement.

Tom Malone, Audiovox Sr. VP of Sales says that DLP projection has become a favorite with home theater enthusiasts. These units deliver very good black-level performance, require no maintenance to preserve sharpness, are thin and light compared to CRTs, and many systems are computer-capable.

Malone notes that although Plasma and LCD flat panel televisions seem to be all the rage these days, reflected by the growing numbers of consumers reaching into their pockets to buy the stylish sets, they are still out of reach of most average household budgets and with DLP getting more affordable it is also gaining in popularity among consumers.

"As a result, rear-projection TV, with its lower pricing but high performance, is attracting lots of attention to retailers and their customers," says Malone.

The new Audiovox 56 inch model has a 16:9 aspect ratio, integrated HDTV tuner & NTSC Tuner, high resolution display, super-wide viewing angle, POP function (Picture-Outside- Picture), PIP function (Picture-In-Picture), PIP with multi-screen function (easy view from 4 to 12 different screens at the same time), convenient front panel A/V connectors, 12 digital & analog inputs, optional base stand, remote control and 56-inch digital light processing TV. MSRP is $3,295.

In addition to the rear projection system, Audiovox is introducing a 37- inch (16:9) HDTV-ready monitor, (model FPE3705), that features SRS surround sound and 3:2 and 2:2 pull-down with motion compensation, progressive scan DVI (Digital Visual Interface) with High Definition Compatible Digital(R) (HDCD(R)), which is a patented encode/decode process for delivering the full richness and detail of the original microphone feed on Compact Discs and DVD- Audio. HDCD-encoded CDs sound better because they are encoded with 20 bits of real musical information, as compared with 16 bits for all other CDs. With HDCD, the listener gets the body, depth, and emotion of the original performance not a flat, digital imitation. MSRP: $2,800.
